We visited the restaurant at Bowood House on Saturday night, and after being long-time members and regularly recommending it to family and friends, we were extremely disappointed with our experience. Unfortunately, we will not be recommending Bowood or returning for dinner anytime soon.
You could choose between a three-course meal or a individual menu. I opted for the three-course meal, which cost £55 per person. However, the portion size was shocking. The pork I received was the smallest portion I’ve ever seen, and the mash was barely more than a forkful. My partner had a fillet steak and asked for it to be medium and there was no pink in it, it was well done (as pictured). For the price, we expected much better quality and quantity. The picture I have attached is the pork without being touched.
Our bill came to £150 for two people, including two drinks each (2 soft drinks), a £55 three-course meal for me and two courses for my partner. This felt like an extremely overpriced and underwhelming meal, especially given how much we used to enjoy this place.
It's such a shame because we’ve always had good experiences here before, but based on this visit, we won’t be returning.

Prepare to get lost. You will miss the turning, you will be confused by where to park and you will go to the wrong building. This place is apparently too posh for any kind of visible signage. The car park is mud and gravel. The decor is plain. The food is very average. Drink are hugely overpriced. Service is excellent, but overall disappointing.
Edit: I appreciate Bowood's response to my review and intention to look into my comments. However, please note that I am a woman. I don't think I will be back.

Went for Festive Afternoon tea the weekend before Christmas. They had live music playing. Plentiful refills on all drinks, hot and cold. Beautifully presented fingers sandwiches, cakes and scones. A lovely afternoon.

Stayed for a Christmas break, 3 nights inclusive of all meals .Excellent afternoon tea on arrival all food prepared in kitchen catering for dietary requirements. Unfortunately the pre- ordered Christmas lunch didn't ensure dietary needs were catered for!

Hotel: Absolutely incredible. The rooms were immaculate and clean and tidy. The staff could not be more attentive to our needs either. There was robes and slippers in the room for use in the spa. A big walk in shower and separate bath also. Wardrobe with hangers for use as well. There was a kettle and nespresso coffee machine with pods in the room and fresh milk and water in the fridge. There was also a powerful hair dryer in the room which is very uncommon. The bed was extremely comfortable. We had the courtyard view room on the 1st floor which overlooked the entrance to the hotel and part of the golf course.
We also used the spa and had treatments and we used the restaurant for dinner, breakfast and afternoon tea.

We have just returned from the 2 night Christmas break and it was just the most perfect Christmas in every way.
The food was exceptional, the staff were so welcoming and couldn’t do enough for you. They worked so hard to provide the best service (Netti) was just so sweet.
We spent Xmas morning in the spa and watching the deer in the grounds. The room was spotless and all the little touches were just perfect. The gifts we received were so lovely and exceeded our expectations. Thank you Bowood we can’t wait to come back soon.

Absolutely lovely. Booked in very very last minute (day of, 14th Dec) for afternoon tea and the lady I spoke to on reception over the phone in the morning was incredibly friendly. Really didn’t have high hopes for such a short notice booking but she found the time for us.
Then, when we got there the place was gorgeously decorated and felt so cosy, with a nice view out to the golf course. The afternoon tea itself was delicious, with a festive twist.
Every person we spoke to couldn’t do enough for us, and were all so friendly and professional.
Highly recommend for a lovely experience, I think I’m going to come back for the spa and/or golf!

A cheeky last minute stay. Excellent communication from Amy E on reception. Arrived at 1:00pm so that we could use the spa/ pool facilities before check in. Beautiful views of the wood and dear roaming on the grounds from the large window in the pool area.
Lovely room, very spacious and immaculately clean. A very warm welcome from Tia in the restaurant for pre- dinner drinks and her excellent service during dinner. Compliments to the chef and his team as the food was outstanding.
A very comfy bed (husband woke up without a bad back for once!) and a brilliant choice of breakfasts (thank you Betti)

Been here today for Sunday roast absolutely lovely plenty of food cooked to perfection 👌. Staff was outstanding nothing was to much trouble thank you all so much definitely be coming back 😀

We visited 24/10/24 for afternoon tea, WOW, you won't be disappointed, the room was spacious, light, with large windows looking over the grounds, staff were professional, polite and courteous throughout our sitting. The food was fantastic, finger sandwiches, yum! Scones still warm with two types of jam and clotted cream yum! And an assortment of delicate cakes, yum! Along with plenty of tea and coffee. Also, boxes to take what you don't manage to finish home. Bowood, take a bow. Thank you for a wonderful afternoon tea experience 😊

Really nice people. Rooms cool enough to sleep in with windows that open. And joy of joys, a freshly cooked and delicious breakfast in the morning. Literally nothing not to like.
